Blue video images ? A lot of divers and snorkeler will recognize this problem when they have filmed in tropical blue water. The beautiful colors can be gained back with a color filter, to be used on your GoPro during your dive. You will restore immediately the red shades, which normally are lost, during filming. The FLIP8/9 color correction and macro system is especially designed for this. Suitable for Hero 5,6,7, 8 and 9. You can easily flip the color correction filter in front of your lens when you need this. On this flip system you can mount a macro lens, which you can flip in front of your GoPro. You can capture a small object sharp and fullscreen.
Blue images: color correction is needed
Your Gopro itself has limited possibilities to adjust the white balance. When you go diving or snorkeling with your GoPro in tropical blue water your captured images will be blue. The beautiful colors can be gained back in your images by flipping a color correction filter in front of the lens of your GoPro. The color correction filter restores the red colors that are lost. You will not need a color correction filter in tropical blue waters until 3 meters of depth. Between 3 and 8 meters you can flip the Shallow filter in front of your lens. Between 8 and 25 meters you need the dive filter, because you need more color correction. For deeper dives, a color correction filter does not work because there is almost no environmental light. Then you really need to switch over to a video lamp.
Macromate Mini +15 macro lens for GoPro 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
Without an extra lens your Gopro can only focus are sharp on a minimum distance of 30 to 60 centimeters from the subject. You cannot get a full sharp focus of a slug or a small detail without a macro lens. With the macromate mini this distance is reduced to 7,6 centimeters! The lens does not enlarge the subject but makes that you can come close for a sharp and fullscreen image. Definitely in our (non-tropical) waters this is an essential item for your GoPro! Because of the poor visibility in our waters you mostly are limited to macro images. The macro lens is a wet lens, to be used on the outside of your underwater housing. The macro lens is mounted on the Flip8 system and can be flipped in front of the lens of the GoPro when necessary. To use the Macromate Mini you will need a FLIP8 system. The Flip8 system can be delivered in different kits. The Pro package is a complete kit with two color correction filters and the +15 macro lens.
TIP: mount a macro lens on the hinge possibility at the side of your GoPro (not on top). Otherwise the lens might flip dowm at an unwanted moment, as a result of the weight of the lens.
+10 Close up lens for Gopro Hero 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
This close up lens works great for shooting subjects of medium size. For the small macro subjects you can use the Macromate Mini +15 macro lens. Also for this lens you need a 55mm filter holder with screw threat. Perfect combination: the +10 close up lens and the Macromate Mini +15, both to be mounted on the Flip8 system, to flip what you need in front of your lens!
FLIP8 system for GoPro 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
The FLIP8 system consists of a small frame to be mounted easily on you GoPro underwater housing. It is mounted on the Super Suit (underwater housing for Hero 5,6,7) or the Protective Housings (underwater housing for Hero 8 and 9). The frame has a hinge on top and on the side, for mounting a filter or a macro lens adapter. The Flip8 system can stay on the underwater housing when you take out the GoPro out of your housing. So you will only have to fasten this once! The color correction filters in this last Flip8 version are firmer and almost unbreakable.
You can mount different color correction filters to the system:
>> Shallow filter: for tropical blue water, depth 3-8 meters
>> Dive filter: for tropical blue water, depth 8-25 meters
>> Deep filter: only for Gopro Hero 4 and older, for tropical blue water, depth from 15 meters onwards.
>> Green water filter: This magenta filter is mentioned for green waters having enough natural light. For example on an shallow dive on a sunny day in a clear sweet water lake like the Grevelingen in Holland. In Holland you will soon have a shortage of light and you cannot correct this with a filter. In our waters you can experiment with this magenta/green water filter, on a nice sunny day. However because of the shortage of the light you will soon need a video lamp on your GoPro.
>> Night seafilter: The night sea/fluor filter is used in combination with a blue/UV light. The blue light of the lamp triggers the fluorescent coral and organism, which makes them for example emit green light. The yellow night sea filter on you GoPro only compensates the blue light of your video lamp. The blue light is not visible on your images because of this yellow filter. The light that the coral and other organisms emit has another frequency, so this will remain visible on your video! This will result in very special images of fluorescent subjects.

The FLIP8 Macromate Mini +15 macro lens reduces the focus distance of your GoPro from 30-60 centimeters to 7,6 centimeters. You will be able to capture a small object fullscreen. A must have for every diver or snorkeler with a GoPro.
With the macro lens, a 55 millimeter lens adapter and an allen key are included. The round lens adapter with screw threat can be mounted on the frame of the Flip8 system. Thereafter just screw the macro lens into the adapter (this is provided with screw threat). Flip the macro lens in front of your lens when you need it!

Diving, snorkeling with your GoPro in non-tropical waters
In our waters we mostly have a shortage of light during imaging or filming. As we already have informed above : on a sunny day in clear water you can experiment with a magenta/green water filter in non-tropical waters, but in general you will need extra light : 1 or 2 videolights. We have written an article about underwater lightning for your Gopro.
The Flip8/9 system is most popular with a macro/close up lens (Macromate Mini +15 Macrolens and the + 10 close up lens) in non-tropical waters. Get close to your subject is one of the most important main rules in underwater photography and videography. With a macro/close up lens you can make this happen!
